A Magazine Highlights the Junior League of Seattle's Cabaret & Dance

Cabaret and Dance

During its very first year, JLS provided holiday entertainment with a Cabaret & Dance fundraising event that included Ziegfeld-type dance performances, dinner, and dancing for guests. That first Cabaret & Dance netted $2,516.56, sparking a tradition that would make regular reappearances in the following decades. In 1929, guests were entertained by three dance performances by League members who had been trained by the Fifth Avenue Theatre. After the cabaret performances, the evening was given over to dancing for the guests. Prizes included a fur coat, a boat trip to San Diego, and a rail trip to Glacier National Park, among other things. All proceeds from the event funded community projects, including the Eastlake Branch of the Day Nursery, the Social Welfare League, the Orthopedic Hospital, and Braille books for the public library.
